Meet Our Staff

 

 

Bryan Mitnaul is our Director of Music and Organist. Bryan's job involves recruitment and training of all choristers; planning and selection of music for all liturgies and special services; direction of the 55-voice ESC Parish Choir, 25-voice Motet Choir and 20-voice RSCM Training Choir; serving as primary organist for all liturgies, weddings and funerals; and teaching classes at Adult Forum. Bryan is a 1977 graduate of Oberlin College and holds a degree in Organ Performance. Bryan has been Director of Music at ESC since 2001 and during that time he introduced the use of the Royal School of Church Music (RSCM) Chorister Training Scheme; successfully modified the ESC music program to include opportunities for the meaningful participation of children and youth; added monthly services of Choral Evensong to the worship life of the parish; obtained Vestry approval to utilize the services of the Buzard Organ Company to revoice ESC's Casavant organ; began an annual tradition of benefit performances of Handel's Messiah in conjuction with the Princess Anne High School Chamber Orchestra; and has taken the ESC choirs on two trips to sing at the Washington National Cathedral.

 

Deborah Quam is our Associate for Christian Formation. Debbie has oversight of all formation programs at ESC, but most closely works with The Rev. Julia Ashby as the Lay Assistant for Adult Formation Ministries. Debbie's primary focus includes the young adults (20-somethings), parents of young children, and senior citizens. Debbie trains and supports adults who serve as facilitators or adult small group leders in the ESC community. She coordinates the small group ministry that is growing at ESC. Debbie teaches baptism classes for new parents, works closely with the clergy in planning and leading Sunday morning adult formation classes, leads Bible studies and groups that focus on sprititual growth. Debbie continues to be involved in the planning and implementation of confirmation courses for both adults and teens. Debbie is a lifelong resident of Virginia Beach. She holds a degree in Elementary Education from Old Dominion University and taught in the Virginia Beach public school system until 1996. She completed her Master of Christian Education at Virginia Theological Seminary in 2003.

 

Christina Wyman is our Parish Administrator. She handles the parish budget and finances, manages the building and grounds and supervises the office staff and sextons. She is also responsible for maintaining personnel records and preparing the Annual and Parochial Reports for the parish each year. Christina comes from a banking background with a focus on financial administration and human resource management.

 

 

Ann Turner is the Administrative Associate to the Rector. In addition to providing administrative suppport to our Rector, Ann is reponsible for the production of the Sunday bulletins, Chapel Chimes newsletter, and other printed materials. She is also our Webmaster.

 

 

Linda Ekberg is our Parish Secretary. She greets parishioners and visitors in the office and supervises our volunteer receptionists. She is responsible for taking reservations for a variety of functions at ESC, does mailings for various commissions, and is responsible for maintaining our schedule of building usage. She maintains the membership database and the canonically-required parish register of baptisms, marriages, burials, and so on.

 

 

Susan Williams serves as pastoral care assistant providing staff oversight for pastoral care programs. Her specific areas are: acute pastoral care, companions for retirement communities, Feed My Sheep, transportation, flower delivery, birthday and clergy prayer cards, New Mom's Ministry, and Family Fun Night.

 

Jean Edwards is Parish Day School Director. This position oversees the 2,3 & 4-year old preschool, extended/full day care and Sunday nursery. In addition to coordinating our programs, the director helps with staff training, and works to ensure that we meet all state regulations and Episcopal Church standards for child safety.

 

 

Mary Camp is the Finance Director. She is responsible for all bookkeeping activities including pledge records, payroll, and paying of bills. .



 

 

Kay O'Reilly serves as both our Newcomer Coordinator and Hospitality Coordinator. Kay coordinates communication with visitors and newcomers to the parish. She sends letters to visitors, adds them to the database, and coordinates a group of volunteers who make phone calls and deliver bread to newcomers. She coordinates the greeter ministry and organizes newcomer lunches and dinners. As Hospitality Coordinator she maintains supplies in the kitchen and organizes several parish events each year.

 

 

Craig Caulkins, Anthony Lewis and John Dennis are our Sextons. They provide building maintenance and janitorial services.

 

 

Noel Brown manages the day-to-day operation of the cemetery. He sells graves and keeps contracts and records regarding them. The grounds are in a neat and clean condition through regular coordination of the maintenance of the grounds and shrubs, trash removal, regular equipment maintenance and confirming compliance with grave site decoration rules. He keeps the records, bills and accounts for the cemetery (including quarterly financial reports, annual budget, and annual report) and reports directly to the Cemetery Committee.

 

 

Amanda McGinty manages the Parish Book Store. She trains the volunteers who staff the store to process sales on the point of sale system, and familiarizes them with store inventory and procedures. Amanda looks for new publications of current interest, attending trade shows when needed to bring in new products for our customers. As the Diocesan bookstore, The Parish Book Store participates in a number of off site exhibits, including the annual Diocesan Council, Clergy Conference, and Shrine Mont. Amanda maintains and balances daily receipts, oversees deposits, processes payments to vendors, distributes grants, and maintains all bookkeeping and inventory functions for the store.
